چکیده مقاله:

In the present study, effects of NaCl concentrations (0, 20, 40 and 80 mM) were investigated on Ceratophyllum demersum. Macronutrients N, P and K and micronutrients Zn and Cu were significantly decreased by NaCl salinity. In general, however, Fe and Mn contents of macrophyte tissues increased. As a result, NaCl toxicity disturbed the uptake and translocation of macro and micronutrients in the macrophyte and induced its nutrient imbalance. Although proline, ascorbate and non-protein protein thiols amounts were increased with salinity, contents of photosynthetic pigments, total soluble carbohydrate, reducing sugar and protein were reduced. Observed increases in malondialdehyde contents, one of the most frequently used indicators of lipid peroxidation, showed that oxidative damage occurred in membranes resulting from NaCl. High salinity stress developed some toxicity symptoms. These symptoms probably occurred due to ionic toxicity, imbalance of macro and micronutrients and/or oxidative stress triggered by salinity.

Different strategies of cadmium detoxification in the submerged macrophyte Ceratophyllum demersum L.

The heavy metal cadmium (Cd) is highly toxic to plants. To understand the mechanisms of tolerance and resistance to Cd, we treated the rootless, submerged macrophyte Ceratophyllum demersum L. with sub-micromolar concentrations of Cd under environmentally relevant conditions. X-ray fluorescence measurements revealed changing distribution patterns of Cd and Zn at non-toxic (0.2 nM, 2 nM), moderat...

Arsenic accumulation and speciation in the submerged macrophyte Ceratophyllum demersum L.

INTRODUCTION Ceratophyllum demersum L. is a widespread submerged macrophyte in aquatic environments. METHODS Simulation experiments were conducted in the laboratory to investigate arsenic (As) accumulation, speciation, and efflux of C. demersum exposed to arsenate and arsenite solutions. RESULTS Plant shoots showed a significant accumulation of As with a maximum of 862 and 963 μg As g(-1) d...

Speciation and distribution of arsenic in the nonhyperaccumulator macrophyte Ceratophyllum demersum.

Although arsenic (As) is a common pollutant worldwide, many questions about As metabolism in nonhyperaccumulator plants remain. Concentration- and tissue-dependent speciation and distribution of As was analyzed in the aquatic plant Ceratophyllum demersum to understand As metabolism in nonhyperaccumulator plants. Speciation was analyzed chromatographically (high-performance liquid chromatography...

Effect of Hirschmanniella caudacrena on the Submersed Aquatic Plants Ceratophyllum demersum and Hydrilla verticillata.

In vitro pathogenicity tests demonstrated that Hirschmanniella caudacrena is pathogenic to Ceratophyllum demersum (coontail). Symptoms were chlorotic tissue, deformed stems, and, finally, death of the plant. Inoculum densities of 500 nematodes per 5-cm-long cutting in a test tube containing 50 ml of water resulted in death and decay of some of the cuttings within 8 weeks; 100 nematodes killed t...

a potential method for remediation of cadmium pollution in aquatic medium by hydrophyte, ceratophyllum demersum l.

introduction: with increasing of population and the valuable water resource pollutions, a demand has been felt for new and inexpensive methods in order to remediation and improving of water quality. cadmium is a trace element. in low concentration, this heavy metal is harmful to life, and considered as a dangerous pollutant. cadmium leads to pollution and reduction of water quality; sometimes e...
